Tour Description
Departing at 8am from Melbourne's CBD, we get an early start on the day by heading straight through the vast volcanic plains of Geelong toward the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Road consistently ranks as one of the world's top ten best scenic coastal drives. Get your camera ready as our tour hugs the sheer cliffs that tower above the thunderous surf of the Southern Ocean. For morning tea we stop in the beautiful coastal town of Anglesea where guests can purchase their own morning tea. We then continue through the picturesque towns of Lorne and Apollo Bay, where we stop for a spot of lunch (own expense) after taking in the rugged, scenic coastline of the most travelled part of the Great Ocean Road.
After lunch, we venture into where the forest meets the sea at the Otway National Park. The Otways are home to a stunning array of wildlife, sealife, prehistoric plants, and the world's tallest trees and lushest fernery. On this guided tour through the rainforest gully, you will be astonished by the wonders of the rainforest. We then head back to the sheer awe-inspiring beauty of Shipwreck Bay's cliff-face, where it sprawls across the horizon and juts out into the crystalline sea. We stop many times to wonder at the miraculous limestone formations, and we even take in the monolithic magnificence of the world-famous 12 Apostles from the water's edge. If you want to, you can opt to take a bird's eye view of the area in a helicopter tour, capturing the wonders from all angles.
Next, we look at the surf-made architecture of Island Arch and Razorback, then Loch Ard Gorge, the breathtaking site of one of Australia's most significant shipwrecks in the 19th century. See where the tragedy unfolded while hearing the story of the Loch Ard Gorge where it all went down. We take a calmer look at the town of Port Campbell, a seaside fishing village, before heading back to Melbourne's evening lights shining as we cross back over the West Gate Bridge.
